Disable Gmail Desktop Notifications
Technology is wonderful. I love it for so many reasons, such as the ability to do a lot of work quickly, or that you can automate a lot of tasks. It highly increases productivity, too. What I don’t like is when my computer or an app decides that it is smarter than me and does things on its own. I love Gmail and Google Drive, (But I also love Dropbox. – I pay for a pro account.) but recently i had to look at my Gmail through my Firefox browser, and then all hell broke loose. It decided to install desktop notifications without asking me or notifying me. In today’s video, I’ll show you how to disable Gmail desktop notifications. This one drove me nuts. i couldn’t figure out how it got on the there. All I knew is that it started popping notifications up in the top right corner, and each time i got an email, my computer would blast an alarming “bling” sound. Now, i don’t get 8721972 emails each day, but I do receive a decent amount. The problem is that this sound would go off every 10 seconds until I clicked on the message, marking it as read. I deleted all plugins and add-ons to Firefox, and the were still there. I turned off MacOSX’s notifications, and it still came up. i was discussing with my wife the option of taking a trip to the Apple store. This was driving me crazy. Where was it coming from, and how do I turn it off?
Where to Disable Gmail Desktop Notifications
It turns out that it is actually inside of your in-browser Gmail’s settings. It isn’t intuitive, so you’ll have to look for it. Log into Gmail in your browser, and click on the gear icon. stay in the General tab (active by default) and scroll down until you see Gmail Desktop notifications, which should be close to the bottom. Click the option to turn these off. Now, you won’t get anymore bling sounds on your computer, and you can live in peace!
